Speaking within the dugout of the Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati, Ohio, Kapler stated, "I don't plan on coming out for the anthem going ahead till I feel higher about the path of our nation."

"We weren't given bravery, and we aren't free. The police on the scene put a mom in handcuffs as she begged them to go in and save her children. They blocked parents trying to organize to charge in to stop the shooter, together with a father who discovered his daughter was murdered whereas he argued with the cops. We aren't free when politicians decide that the lobbyist and gun industries are extra essential than our kids's freedom to go to school without having bulletproof backpacks and energetic shooter drills," Kapler wrote.

Later, Kapler wrote about his disillusionment with what he called "the dearth of delivery of the promise of what our national anthem represents."

"I am not okay with the state of this nation. I wish I hadn't let my discomfort compromise my integrity. I wish that I might have demonstrated what I realized from my dad, that if you're dissatisfied with your country, you let or not it's recognized by means of protest. The house of the brave should encourage this."

Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr made an impassioned plea to take stronger action against gun violence in the United States.

Kerr refused to speak about basketball ahead of Game 4 of the Warriors' collection against the Dallas Mavericks, as a substitute raising his voice as he railed in opposition to gun violence within the wake of Tuesday's shooting.

"Within the final 10 days, we've had elderly Black people killed in a supermarket in Buffalo, we've had Asian churchgoers killed in Southern California, now we now have youngsters murdered in school," Kerr told reporters initially of the press conference.

"When are we going to do one thing? I'm drained. I am so tired of getting up right here and offering condolences to the devastated households which can be on the market ... I am uninterested in the moments of silence. Enough."
