Speaking within the dugout of the Nice American Ballpark in Cincinnati, Ohio, Kapler stated, "I do not plan on popping out for the anthem going ahead until I feel higher in regards to the path of our country."
In a blog post, Kapler questioned whether or not the nation's leadership is dedicated to representing its people's finest pursuits and whether the US is truly "the land of the free and the home of the courageous.""We weren't given bravery, and we aren't free. Later, Kapler wrote about his disillusionment with what he called "the dearth of supply of the promise of what our nationwide anthem represents."
"I am not okay with the state of this nation. I want I hadn't let my discomfort compromise my integrity. I wish that I could have demonstrated what I realized from my dad, that if you're dissatisfied together with your country, you let it be recognized via protest. The house of the brave should encourage this."

"When are we going to do something? I'm drained. I'm so bored with getting up here and offering condolences to the devastated families which might be on the market ... I'm uninterested in the moments of silence. Sufficient."
