Mike Tyson will not face expenses in altercation with JetBlue passenger, district legal professional says

A California district attorney declined to file expenses Tuesday in opposition to former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson after he was recorded on video in a physical altercation with one other passenger on a JetBlue flight.

San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe made the choice after having reviewed police reports and videos of the April 20 incident. Each the passenger, who has not been identified, and Tyson requested that no fees be filed.

"Yesterday afternoon the San Mateo County District Legal professional’s Workplace concluded its overview of the case involving Mike Tyson on the San Francisco Airport on April 20, 2022 and the allegation that he committed a misdemeanor battery towards one other passenger on an airplane whereas ready on the terminal prior to departure," Wagstaffe said in a statement.

"Our choice is that we are going to not file any prices in opposition to Mr. Tyson based mostly on the circumstances surrounding the confrontation. These include the conduct of the sufferer leading as much as the incident, the interplay between Mr. Tyson and the victim, as well as the requests of each the victim and Mr. Tyson that no costs be filed in this case," Wagstaffe mentioned.

The case is now closed.

Cellphone video showed Tyson, 55, appearing to try to punch someone who was pushing him away. Representatives for Tyson stated the individual was harassing Tyson. The video did not show what occurred earlier than the altercation.

David Chesnoff, Richard Schonfeld and Martin Sabelli, attorneys for Tyson, responded to the choice to not file charges by thanking Wagstaffe, the San Mateo County sheriff and law enforcement agencies "for his or her careful, diligent, and professional work."
