Arlington police said Duff Elementary Faculty was placed on lockdown for a time Thursday after a guardian with a concealed weapon had his gun by chance go off, hitting the dad or mum in the leg.

ARLINGTON, Texas - Arlington police said Duff Elementary School was positioned on lockdown for a time Thursday after a mum or dad with a hid weapon had his gun by chance go off, hitting the guardian in the leg.

The college had early launch and students had been released on the deliberate time of 12:10 p.m.

In keeping with police, the dad or mum, recognized as 55-year-old Anthony White, dropped his gun and unintentionally shot himself. His harm was not serious.

Arlington Police Chief Al Jones stated after White was launched from the hospital, he was arrested and charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon in prohibited locations and discharge of a firearm in sure municipalities.

Arlington parents said their minds instantly thought of the worst once they have been notified.

"After I received the text message, I was like, ‘Oh my God, one thing is going to happen.’ I used to be shocked," father or mother Karima Rasheed said.

Whereas most occasions, lockdowns are only drills students have to take part in, Rasheed's son, Rami, said that understanding what happened earlier this week made this lockdown totally different. 

"I started seeing my classmates starting to cry and our trainer got a notification on their telephone saying someone was in the constructing," he mentioned.

Mitchell lives across the street from Duff Elementary. His daughters go to a different Arlington faculty. 

"I’m terrified, absolutely terrified. I’ve received twin six-year-olds that go to a different Arlington school and every time I hear there's a lockdown or a college shooting, my heart jumps into my throat," he stated.

Rasheed stated Thursday was the commencement day for 6th grade students at Duff Elementary.

While driving her son to high school within the morning, she had a chat with him about Uvalde and what to do if something ever occurred at his faculty.

"If one thing occurred, you’ve acquired to run wherever that’s secure and hide," she instructed her youngster.

While some say the incident in Uvalde is just too recent to talk politics, Mitchell mentioned something needs to be done now. 

"They want to discuss it, they need to marketing campaign on it, they need to fundraiser on it, but they don’t want to actually cross any laws and do anything," he added.
